Job description:
EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organization) is a renowned international organization of scientists that interacts with the scientific and non-scientific community worldwide. Its mission is to promote molecular life sciences in Europe. The Manager of the EMBO Science & Society Activities will be responsible for maintaining and further developing the Science & Society Activities of EMBO, which include:
- Annual conferences on topical issues;
- Science & Society summer schools;
- The Science Policy sessions at The EMBO Meeting, a large, European annual forum in life sciences (www.the-embo-meeting.org);
- Establishing and maintaining communication with the European Commission and representatives of the European Parliament to mediate advice by European life scientists.
This successful candidate will have additional responsibilities in the framework of the Initiative for Science in Europe (ISE, www.initiative-science-europe.org) and the European Life Sciences Forum (ELSF, www.elsf.org).
Qualifications
and experience:
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in an area of life sciences. (S)he should be capable of working independently and be prepared to travel extensively. A good knowledge of the European institutions including their structures, policies and programmes is required. The post-holder will be a skilled organizer and communicator in all media and have computer literacy. Fluency in English is required; French would be an additional advantage.
Contract:
An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.
