PhD studentship in Computational Biophysics
Department of Physics and Astronomy - University College London
A 3-year PhD studentship is available from 1. October 2009 to work under the
supervision of Dr. Jochen Blumberger at the Condensed Matter and Materials
Physics Laboratory, University College London. The PhD project involves the
development of quantum/classical simulation methods for electron or proton
transport in simple condensed phase systems and proteins. Possible
applications include electron transport proteins, hydrogen converting enzymes
and redox driven proton pumps.
The candidate must be either UK (preferred) or EU citizen, and should have,
or be about to receive, an honours degree (at least II.1 or equivalent) in
Physics or Chemistry. Basic knowledge in quantum mechanics, statistical
mechanics and programming is expected. Interest in writing computer code is
essential. Some experience with molecular simulation is desirable, but not
required. Full funding of fees is available, and for UK applicants additional
funding for maintenance is provided.
