JOB DESCRIPTION
MSc in Business Informatics
Informatics = management and utilisation of information.
Business informatics focuses on information management and information processing in organisations to bring added-value to the business. Designed for aspiring business consultants and analysts, this programme places an emphasis on the understanding of the critical role of information in relation to business strategies, business processes, and decision-making. The course develops students’ knowledge and skills with specific focus on business intelligence and business performance analysis using information management and processing techniques. This programme should appeal to students from a wide range of subject backgrounds, including business and management, information systems, science, engineering, and humanities, and will prepare graduates to take on challenging information management and leadership roles in competitive business environments. Our employable graduates have gone on to pursue successful multi-disciplinary careers for companies including: Accenture, Avaya, CapGemini, Citibank, Deloitte, IBM, etc. Job roles include business / management consultants, information specialists / advisors, researchers, software engineers, IT operations managers, systems analysts and developers.
A student is required to complete 6 taught modules and a dissertation project. The dissertation is normally relevant to a practical problem and may have a link with a commercial partner, allowing students to gain access to relevant employable skills.
Entry Requirements: Applicants are generally expected to have obtained an upper second-class honours degree, or the international equivalent, in a related science field, or in a social science and humanities with basic IT knowledge and skills. Relevant industry experience is also acceptable, subject to the University of Reading’s APEL rules. Applicants whose first language is not English are expected to have obtained IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 570. We provide a presessional English course for those who have achieved IELTS 5.5 with excellent academic results.
