JOB DESCRIPTION
MSc in Applied Informatics
Informatics = management and utilisation of information.
This programme is designed to address an increasing demand, from industry and academia, for professionals with interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in information management. It builds on the strengths of the prospective students, and adds value and employability by teaching relevant methods and techniques of information management and systems development. MSc Applied Informatics allows you to specialise in your chosen area, providing you with an additional competitive advantage
• Construction Informatics
• Biodiversity Informatics
• Computing Informatics
• Health Informatics
It is suitable for those who wish to pursue careers involving information management and decision making. A student is required to complete 6 taught modules and a dissertation project. The dissertation is normally relevant to a practical problem and may have a link with a commercial partner, allowing students to gain access to relevant employable skills.
Entry Requirements: Applicants are generally expected to have obtained an upper second-class honours degree, or the international equivalent, in a related science field, or in a social science and humanities with basic IT knowledge and skills. Relevant industry experience is also acceptable, subject to the University of Reading’s APEL rules. Applicants whose first language is not English are expected to have obtained IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 570. We provide a presessional English course for those who have achieved IELTS 5.5 with excellent academic results.
