MSc in Forensic Archaeology & Anthropology
Suitable for students of archaeology, forensics and other cognitive sciences who wish to gain experience of forensic archaeology and anthropology and will benefit from spending a year specialising in this area. Also for archaeologists, forensic specialists, emergency service personnel and those whose roles might bring them into contact with the forensic recovery of human remains, from journalists to civil servants and NGO employees.
Takes you on to opportunities to work in the area of forensics with Government and non-Governmental bodies. It is also a necessary introduction that leads into conducting research at PhD level in the subject.
You will be taught by faculty from the Defence College of Management and Technology, many of them world leaders in their field, who understand the problems of translating the theory into practice.
Assessment:
Students are assessed on written and oral examinations, continuous assessment, coursework and on their project dissertations.
Course description:
The Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology MSc is designed to give a broad introduction to the subject, rapidly advancing into the understanding of the cutting-edge research and latest methodologies.
The course is highly practical and hands-on, aiming to produce forensic experts capable of giving an expert opinion in a courtroom situation and elsewhere.
Part one of the MSc course contains an introductory period followed by academic instruction in modular form.
Students are required to take eight core modules covering the main disciplines and choose two optional modules based upon their particular background, future requirements or interests. To qualify for the MSc, the students must successfully complete formal examinations, coursework and a research project.
Entry Requirements:
1st or 2nd class honours degree in archaeology, sciences or forensics or the professional equivalent. Students with other degrees who can show a knowledge of and interest in the scientific elements of the subject will also be considered. Students whose native language is not English must attain an IELTS score of 7.
