Normally an Upper Second Class Honours degree or above (or equivalent) in a biological, chemical or biochemical science subject is required. Taught by leading international researchers, this programme provides a solid background in biocatalysis, biomolecular science and bioinformatics which will be of particular relevance to the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries. You will receive training in medicinal aspects of drug design and can specialise in a more chemical, biological or biochemical area as part of your industrially related research project.
The programme incorporates a substantial element of hands-on research experience, with enhanced experimental skills gained alongside experienced research workers. At the end of the course you will have a systematic, up to date knowledge of the subject, as well as a critical awareness of broader aspects of modern research at this multidisciplinary interface.
This programme provides you with the breadth of scientific knowledge to undertake a career in research within the emerging and important area of white biotechnology. On completion you will be qualified to undertake a PhD or to gain employment in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries, among the strongest growth sectors of the UK economy.
